Medium Setting IS 8887 | OGPCCSIR ValidatedPMGSY ApprovedHINCOL Emulsion Premix-M is a medium-setting cationic bitumen emulsion conforming to IS 8887:2004, specifically formulated for Open Graded Premix Carpet (OGPC) construction using manual mixing — in concrete mixers, drum mixers, or by hand. OGPC Premix-M provides a cost-effective, durable bituminous wearing course on PMGSY rural roads, village streets, and panchayat roads without requiring a hot mix plant.
The MS (Medium Setting) grade provides sufficient workability window for manual mixing, transport, and hand-laying operations while achieving rapid strength gain post-compaction. Backed by COLAS SA France with 85+ years of cold mix expertise. The Application Handbook specifies: ‘Cationic bitumen emulsion of MS grade (Hincol Premix Bitumen Emulsion) shall be used for preparation of cold mixed open graded premix.’

How to Use — Step by Step
1
Prepare Surface
Clean and shape granular base. Apply prime coat (SS1) on WMM/WBM and cure fully. Apply RS1 tack coat at 0.20–0.25 kg/sqm.

Blend Aggregates
Blend 13.2 mm and 11.2 mm aggregates in 2:1 ratio. Check gradation. Ensure aggregate is clean and dust-free.

Mix Premix-M
Load aggregate in mixer. Add 1% pre-wetting water. Add Premix-M emulsion (≈7% by wt. aggregate) gradually. Mix exactly 2 minutes — do not over-mix.

Lay to 30 mm
Discharge brown-coloured mix. Spread manually to 30 mm loose thickness over tack-coated surface.

Roll
Roll with 8–10 tonne tandem roller. Apply HINCOL Sealcoat-M immediately after rolling. Open to traffic after seal coat compaction.

- Mix exactly 2 minutes — do not over-mix or aggregate will be de-coated
- If using packed drums: roll drum 5 times before opening for uniform consistency

What is the mixing procedure for Premix-M?
Pre-wet blended aggregate with 1% water by weight → load into drum/concrete mixer → add HINCOL Premix-M gradually → mix for exactly 2 minutes. Do not over-mix (more than 3 minutes) as prolonged mixing de-coats aggregate. Discharge when mix shows uniform brown colour.
When to apply seal coat after Premix Carpet?
Apply HINCOL Sealcoat-M or Liquid Seal Coat immediately after rolling of Premix Carpet. Do not leave overnight without seal coat. Traffic can open after seal coat Type B is rolled — same day. For Type A Liquid Seal Coat, open the next day.
What is the difference between Premix-M and Premix-P?
Both use the same emulsion grade (medium setting, MS). The difference is the application method: Premix-M is for manual mixing (drum mixer, concrete mixer) and hand laying — suitable for village roads and small PMGSY packages. Premix-P is for paver/mechanical application — giving better surface quality and higher output, suited for MDR and larger state rural road packages.
