HINCOL Emulsion RS2 is a specially designed water-based Bitumen Emulsion with high viscosity and fast setting time — ideally suited for Surface Dressing (Chip Seal), Grouting, and Penetration Macadam applications in road construction and maintenance. Chocolate brown in colour and free-flowing at ambient temperature, it is manufactured strictly as per IS 8887:2004.
As part of HINCOL’s complete bitumen emulsion range, RS2 is the high-viscosity counterpart to RS1 — engineered specifically for surface treatment applications where a heavier binder film is required for strong aggregate retention and durable weatherproofing of road surfaces. Its rapid setting characteristic ensures quick break upon contact with aggregate, locking chips firmly in place and reducing road closure time.
Applied directly at ambient temperature — eliminating energy costs, special equipment, and fire hazards associated with hot bitumen application.
Rapid setting on contact with aggregate ensures quick curing and faster opening to traffic — reducing road closure time and traffic disruption on busy routes.
Strong bonding between aggregate chips and the road surface — minimising aggregate loss (stone scatter) under traffic loads.
Seals aged and weathered bituminous surfaces — restoring waterproofing, preventing further oxidation, and extending pavement service life.
Water-based emulsion — no petroleum solvents, minimal VOC, safer for construction workers and surrounding environment.
Low-cost preventive maintenance treatment that extends road life significantly — one of the most economical surface treatment methods for low and medium traffic roads.
From HINCOL RS2 product datasheet. Final rate determined by supervising engineer based on surface condition, porosity, and aggregate size.
| Application Type | Rate |
|---|---|
| Two-Coat Surface Dressing (Standard) | 28–32 kg / 10 m² |
| Single-Coat Surface Dressing | 15–20 kg / 10 m² |
| Grouting / Penetration Macadam | As per project specification |
Both are Cationic Rapid Setting emulsions per IS 8887:2004. The right choice depends on your application.

RS2 emulsion supports all standard surface dressing construction methods. Choose the type based on traffic level, surface condition, and design life requirement.
One coat of RS2 emulsion followed by one layer of aggregate chips. Suitable for rural roads, low-volume roads, and preventive maintenance on lightly trafficked surfaces.
One binder coat with two layers of aggregate (different sizes). Provides better interlock and improved skid resistance. Suited for moderate traffic roads.
Two coats of RS2 emulsion with two aggregate layers. The standard for high-traffic roads — rate 28–32 kg/10m². Provides maximum durability, chip retention, and waterproofing.
Aggregate spread before and after emulsion application. Creates a textured, skid-resistant surface on roads where aggregate retention is critical.
Higher viscosity (100–300 sec @ 50°C) provides a thicker, more robust binder film — keeping aggregate chips firmly embedded and reducing stone scatter on newly treated surfaces.
Higher residual binder content means more bitumen film per unit area after the water evaporates — delivering better aggregate binding and surface protection.
Eliminates the cost, equipment, and safety hazards of heating bitumen to 150–180°C. RS2 can be applied straight from drums at site temperature.
Seals oxidized and weathered surfaces against water ingress and UV degradation — adding years to the useful life of existing bituminous pavements at low cost.
One of the most economical road maintenance treatments available — particularly effective for rural roads, district roads, and preventive maintenance before structural damage occurs.
Beyond surface dressing, RS2’s high viscosity makes it the right choice for Grouting (filling voids) and Penetration Macadam — versatile across multiple road construction applications.

HINCOL Emulsion RS2 is used for Surface Dressing (Chip Seal), Grouting, and Penetration Macadam in road construction and maintenance. Its high viscosity and fast setting time make it ideal for surface treatment applications where a durable, chip-retaining binder film is required to protect and extend pavement life.
Surface Dressing (also called Chip Seal) is a road maintenance treatment where a bitumen emulsion is sprayed over an existing pavement and aggregate chips are immediately spread and rolled into it. It seals the surface, restores skid resistance, and extends pavement life at low cost. HINCOL RS2 is used for all types of surface dressing — single coat, double coat, sandwich, and penetration macadam. The standard rate for two-coat surface dressing is 28–32 kg per 10 sq.m.
RS2 has higher viscosity (100–300 sec @ 50°C) and higher residual binder content than RS1 — necessary for holding aggregate chips firmly in a surface dressing application.
The typical application rate of HINCOL Emulsion RS2 for two-coat surface dressing is 28–32 kg per 10 sq.m. For single-coat surface dressing, rates are lower. The exact rate is determined by the supervising engineer based on surface condition, porosity, and aggregate size being used.
No. One of the key advantages of HINCOL Emulsion RS2 is that it is applied directly at ambient temperature — no heating required. This eliminates energy costs and the safety hazards associated with heated bitumen application. Roll drums 5 times before use to ensure uniform consistency.
No. HINCOL Emulsion RS2 should not be diluted with any solvent. Dilution changes the emulsion’s viscosity and breaking characteristics, which can result in poor aggregate adhesion and premature failure of the surface dressing treatment.
HINCOL Emulsion RS2 is manufactured strictly as per IS 8887:2004 — the Indian Standard for Cationic Bitumen Emulsion for Roads. It is classified as a Cationic Rapid Setting (RS) emulsion Grade 2.
HINCOL Emulsion RS2 has a shelf life of 12 months when stored at temperatures between 10°C and 50°C. Store away from direct sunlight. Never allow to freeze (below 0°C) or overheat (above 85°C). Always reseal containers after use.
HINCOL Emulsion RS2 is available in: Bulk (tanker) for large road projects, RC Drums 200 Kg, MS Drums 200 Kg, and HDPE Drums 200 Kg for smaller projects and site delivery.
