HINCOL Bitumen Primer
IS 3384 Cold AppliedHINCOL Bitumen Primer is a cold-applied, solvent-based bituminous solution conforming to IS 3384. It is specifically formulated to penetrate and seal porous substrates — concrete, metal, and deck surfaces — creating a strong bonding base for bituminous waterproofing systems and sheet coverings. Part of HINCOL’s Special Bitumen Products range, the primer is manufactured by Hindustan Colas — a joint venture of HPCL and COLAS SA France.
Unlike water-based primers, HINCOL Bitumen Primer offers faster drying and quicker bond development — making it the preferred choice for construction timelines where rapid turnaround between priming and waterproofing application is critical. The low viscosity formulation ensures deep penetration into substrate pores, effectively binding residual dust particles and sealing micro-cracks before the waterproofing membrane is applied.

Application Method
1️⃣ Surface Preparation
Clean surface — free from oil, grease, dirt, dust, loose debris. Remove loose rust on metal with wire bristle brush.
2️⃣ Check Moisture
Surfaces should be dry. Primer adheres to damp but not wet surfaces. Avoid application in rain.
3️⃣ Apply by Brush/Spray
Apply one generous, even coat across the entire surface — ensure complete coverage with no missed areas.
4️⃣ Allow to Dry
Allow 1.5 hours to dry. For concrete, allow 2-hour margin before applying waterproofing overlay.
Handling & Safety

Wear gloves, avoid naked flames and sparks. Ensure work area is well-ventilated to avoid vapour buildup.

Avoid inhaling solvent vapour. Remove person to fresh air if exposure occurs and seek medical attention.

What is HINCOL Bitumen Primer used for?

Can it be applied on damp surfaces?
HINCOL Bitumen Primer will adhere to damp surfaces but not to wet surfaces. Surfaces should preferably be dry for best results.
What is the drying time?
Touch dry after 30 minutes. Completely dry after 1.5 hours. For concrete and screeded surfaces, allow a 2-hour drying margin before applying waterproofing overlay.
How much coverage does one litre provide?
Coverage depends on surface type: Metal — 6–12 sqm per litre, Concrete — 6–8 sqm per litre. High-porosity surfaces require more primer.
What packing and shelf life?
Available in 25 Litre containers. Shelf life is indefinite in undamaged, tightly sealed containers stored away from heat sources and direct sunlight.
Is it safe to use indoors?
HINCOL Bitumen Primer is solvent-based and releases inflammable vapours. When working indoors, ensure adequate ventilation to prevent vapour buildup. Follow all handling precautions — wear gloves, avoid naked flames, do not inhale vapour.
