What’s COLFLEX®
COLFLEX® is a premium range of polymer-modified binders, engineered by enhancing conventional viscosity grade bitumen with advanced polymers. This modification significantly improves the binder’s cohesion, elasticity, and resistance to thermal deformation — especially on heavy duty roads at high service temperatures.
HINCOL’s polymer-modified binders are manufactured to meet the standards of IS 15462, as well as international Performance Grade specifications (AASHTO M320 and M332). Colflex® binders offer extended pavement life, reducing maintenance frequency and cost. Enhanced workability across a broader temperature range gives contractors greater flexibility during construction.

Frequently Asked Questions — PMB & COLFLEX®
What is COLFLEX® PMB?
COLFLEX® is HINCOL’s premium range of polymer-modified binders, engineered by enhancing conventional viscosity grade bitumen with advanced polymers — improving cohesion, elasticity, and resistance to thermal deformation. Manufactured to IS 15462, AASHTO M320 and M332. Available grades: Colflex PMB 64-10, 70-10, 76-10, 82-10, 76-22, and RW4560/S BS 5-50.
What is PMB full form in road construction?
PMB full form is Polymer Modified Bitumen. It is premium bitumen blended with high-quality elastomeric polymers (SBS — Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene). HINCOL PMB (COLFLEX®) is manufactured as per IS 15462:2019, IRC SP 53-2002, and AASHTO M320 / M332.
What is the IS code for PMB?
The IS code for PMB is IS 15462:2019 (updated from IS 15462:2004) — Polymer and Rubber Modified Bitumen Specification. HINCOL PMB also conforms to IRC SP 53-2002 and international standards AASHTO M320 and AASHTO M332.
What is the difference between PMB 40, PMB 70, and PMB 120?
- PMB 40 — Penetration 30–50, SP ≥ 60°C — hot climatic areas (Rajasthan, Gujarat, AP)
- PMB 70 — Penetration 50–90, SP ≥ 55°C — moderate climatic areas (most Indian states)
- PMB 120 — Penetration 90–150, SP ≥ 50°C — cold climatic areas (J&K, Himachal, Uttarakhand)
All three grades: Elastic Recovery ≥ 75% at 25°C, Flash Point ≥ 220°C, Separation ≤ 3°C.
What is PMB RW4560 and where is it used?
PMB RW4560 (Colflex RW4560/S BS 5-50) is specially formulated for airport runways (commercial and defence), SAMI applications on bridge decks, and racetracks. Meets stringent requirements for extreme load bearing, skid resistance, and rutting resistance.
What is MSCR Test and MSCR Compliance?
MSCR (Multiple Stress Creep Recovery) is a binder test under AASHTO TP 70 / T350 measuring rutting resistance and elastic response. AASHTO M332 / IS 15462 classify PG binders into: S (Standard), H (Heavy), V (Very Heavy), E (Extreme). All Colflex® PG grades are MSCR-compliant.
What is the difference between PMB and CRMB?
- PMB — modified with synthetic SBS polymer. Elastic recovery ≥ 75% at 25°C. Branded as COLFLEX® by HINCOL.
- CRMB — modified with recycled crumb rubber from end-of-life tyres. Elastic recovery ≥ 50% at 15°C. Eco-friendly.
